ARLT (Association for Latin Teaching) Summer School
The 2024 Summer School, held at Stamford School, was directed by its Head of Classics, Alex Smith.
We offered a wide range of option groups which included teaching and learning and adaptive classroom practice, teaching GCSE and A Level set texts, and developing teachers’ language proficiency. This opportunity to share best practice and classroom experience is what makes the Summer School such a valued event.
Alongside this, each day saw at least one lecture, including Prof. Stephen Heyworth (University of Oxford) speaking on Ovid’s Fasti and the Roman calendar and Jim Irvine’s fascinating talk on the discovery of the Ketton Villa on his farmland. There was also time for a trip to Flag Fen Archaeological Park, a Classics quiz and an evening of Greek and Latin entertainment showcasing the talents of attendees.
